Unknot your pretty little brow I know things seem pretty grim right now And it gets hard to tell just how you'll break this spell while It seems like all you can recall now All this has happened before and will again It will pass and you'll remain But you must consent to be whole again Let still the waters of your restless mind Thrash not against the waves, for you will find They only grow stronger the longer you fight So bite your lip, lose you grip, it'll be alright Let the currents rip land out of sight All this has happened before and will again It will pass and you'll remain But you must consent to be whole again Let the waves wash over you This storm's gonna roll right through The mind's an ocean, deep and strange and wide You cannot fight the changing tide Sit down and stay a while Spill it all, the beauty and the bile 'Cause it's okay if your whole world is falling apart For only at the end of all things do they ever seem to start

Only Shadows 04:33
Do you remember when we forgot Everything we'd ever been taught? We shed the weight of memory And everything we wanted to be 'Cause I remember well how it felt To put away the hand that we'd been dealt To push back from the table and cash in all our chips While we were young and able, strong backs and soft lips All the world's a stage and we are only players Typecast as we age And the roles we hold so dear Are only shadows of what's really here Do you remember when we agreed That we were already free as we were ever 'gonna be? And you said the light at the end of the tunnel could just be a train So we might as well have some fun while our blood runs in our veins Then all at once we stopped being so damn serious Our parents were furious and called us delirious But we knew it could never be described So we just sat and laughed until we cried All the world's a stage and we are only players Typecast as we age And the roles we hold so dear Are only shadows of what's really here

Lets push our beds together and listen to the foul weather as each thunder crash shakes the dust and ash from these old rafters the sound of our laughter rings above it all bouncing down these old halls Lets build a mighty keep and we can fight off the counting sheep sheltered by pillars of pillows as the hills and willows howl in the wind you spin a tale of some place you’ve never been till the line between waking and dream falls apart along its seam The paint on these walls will peel and fade and we won’t always recall how we feel today but the sound of the rain pounding on my window pane stays the same let’s scrape together what we can and buy ourselves a canvas camper van and find rock wells america where the straw smells sweet in the summer heat and the wheat whispers a sermon for those who will listen, and I think I’m learnin' Or we could stay in this town, my nanny says our blood is in the ground and we are bound to the earth by a sacred pact of birth she says we are only sprouts and even in the longest drought, we must remain devout the paint on those walls has turned from blue to grey and our families have moved away but the games we play never real change, do they

The earth is turned where we spun Where we danced 'til we collapsed ‘neath a jealous sun And now that the day is done And we’ve no more will left to run We will lie instead on a grass bed And as the sky turns from gold to red The shadows stretch in the twisting sketch We scrawled in the sand with our bodies and hands The stalks are parted and broken where we ran Where they tickled the palms of our outstretched hands Dusk falls and the wind rides high, the fallow fields heave and sigh Life is far too short to be shy As the sun sank into the west Our eyes grew heavy but we could not rest When morning came, bright and new I kissed the dew from your lips And spoke a quiet truth with my fingertips Amber waves of grain grow white capped As we intertwined and each others bodies mapped They roar, but we can’t hear them anymore With our bodies meeting the sound is drowned in our swollen hearts beating We made no promises, or pacts to seal with kisses We’d no breath to spare on dreams or wishes We lost ourselves for one night And in losing found that what is right May not last long, but is that so wrong? Better than pretending this is never ending With the sun we rose and shone Found our clothes and put them back on And with the dawn you were gone But birds gotta fly and so will I Just give me time the grass is thatched where we laid the schemes we hatched as tall grass swayed in my mind have stayed though they’re beginning to fade
